More things to think about, party-ward

Nadia Urbinati responds to my question about the importance of parties, as such, to pluralism in a representative democracy. (And responds pretty convincingly, too… but I’m always a sucker for a Hegelian argument, so perhaps you don’t agree!)

Shortened version: parties offer people a way to transcend their social and cultural interest groups and come together with a distinct position on the general interest, without thereby being absorbed into false unity.
