I take back the Beatles as boy band thing

I am sitting in a Subway listening to – seriously – the New Kids on the Block. Hanging Tough, even. My god, I don’t think I realized just how terrible this band was when they were contemporary. I mean, wow. Get a drum machine and a bunch of totally tone-deaf (and when *I* can hear that, you know it’s bad) pretty boys and you have the New Kids.

Phoebe, you are right: women care more about looks than anything else. Otherwise, the New Kids would never have sold a single tape. At least the sex symbols for the boys of that era were talented, like Madonna. Of course, now we have Britney Spears, so neither gender comes out of this smelling very nice.

Now listen to All-4-One and 98 Degrees. Don’t forge NSYNC. Oh, and the Backstreet Boys.

I feel like this needs to be linked here.

I get that this was meant as tongue-in-cheek, but for the record I never said, and don’t think, women care more about looks than anything else.

As for boy bands generally, I can’t remember being an age at which these bands were not being marketed at a cohort younger than myself. In any case, I don’t think grown women are meant to find the ‘boys’ in them attractive.
